Thor! stopt ermee (HET NIEUWSBLAD 2008 )

Titi-titi-titi-tidie: met dat vrolijke deuntje werd de kleine Thor Schalden (11) twee jaar geleden wereldberoemd in Vlaanderen en mocht hij naar het Junior Songfestival. Maar Thor is uitgezongen. Volgende week treedt hij voor de laatste keer op. Met het aanstekelijke Tocht door het donker werd de toen 9-jarige Thor Salden uit Schoten de lieveling van Vlaanderen en mocht hij naar het Junior Eurovisie Songfestival in Boekarest. Daar behaalde hij een mooie zevende plaats. Zijn zelfgeschreven nummer haalde zelfs de eerste plaats in de Ultratop, goed voor een Gouden Award. Vorig jaar werd Thor geselecteerd voor KetnetPop, een concertreeks van Ketnet met ex-kandidaten van Junior Euroson g. Maar in de tweede editie van KetnetPop volgend jaar in april is hij er niet meer bij. Aanstaande donderdag geeft Thor zijn laatste optreden, tijdens een benefietshow op een kerstmarkt in een buurtschooltje in Borgerhout. 'Hij heeft het wel een beetje gehad', zegt zijn vader Geert. 'Hij is nu elf en dat is een moeilijke leeftijd om nog kinderliedjes te staan zingen. Bij de tweede single werd hij een beetje gedwongen iets in dezelfde stijl als Tocht door het donker te zingen en daar voelde hij zich al niet meer echt goed bij.' Thor wou liever de richting uit van Xink, een beetje meer rock dus, maar dat verkoopt nu eenmaal niet zo goed. 'De cd-markt is intussen ingestort', zegt papa Geert. 'De hele kindersector heeft het moeilijk op dit moment. Bab, die andere Junior Eurosong -kandidate, wordt flink gepusht, maar haar lang aangekondigde full-cd komt er ook maar niet. Thor heeft nog een tijdje met de Ketnetband opgetreden en die vroegen toen 6.000 tot 7.000 euro, maar welke organisator wil of kan dat in deze crisistijden nog betalen?
