Child actor Jay North is best known as Dennis from the TV series 'Dennis the Menace'. He was chosen for the role by creator Hank Ketcham himself, and appeared in 146 episodes between 1959 and 1963. Shortly after the series began in 1959 at the age of seven, he recorded an album.
He appeared in countless variety programs during his peak and later appeared in several movies as a teen and as a young adult, including the TV series Maya, in which he co-starred with Sajid Khan. Finding himself forever typecast as "Dennis the Menace", North his acting career suddenly came to a halt, causing extreme turmoil.
Jay quit acting and joined the Navy in the 1970's. He later served as a prison security guard, but is now retired. He has been active in A Minor Consideration, an organization which provides advice and counseling to other professional child/teen stars who face similar stressful situations.
