Varpelis The Boys and Youth Choir “Varpelis” was founded in 1960 in the Palace of Trade‑Union Culture in Kaunas. The Varpelis School of Boys' Choral Singing was established 1989.

The founder of the school is Kaunas department of education and developing. Since 1983 Ksaveras Plančiūnas is the artistic director of the choir. The conductor and teaching methodologist is a graduate from St. Petersburg Conservatoire (Prof. Nikolaj ROMANOVSKIJ). He studied choir and orchestra conducting at Vilnius Conservatoire (prof. Rimas GENIUŠAS) and attended a development course at Stuttgart International Academy (prof. Helmuth RILLING). At present he teaches conducting at Kaunas Faculties of Lithuanian Musical Academy.

“Varpelis” participates in various culture projects with Kaunas’ student choirs and Lithuanian boys and youth choirs, in international projects with German Frankfurt (Od) boys choir (leader Dr. Jurgen HINTZE), with German Kelsterbach music school (director Karl-Ernst ESCHBORN), with Norwegian Bergen department of culture (conductor Espen SELVIK). Concerts in: Austria, Czech Republik, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Norway, France, Germany.
