Stefan Pangratz was a member of the Tölzer Knabenchor in 1996.
For the unique purity of his voice and his impressive technique, Stefan is truly an extraordinary boy soprano. Although his voice does not have wether the fullness nor the power of Christian Fliegner's, it is of an incomparable seduction. Combined freshness and enthusiasm: such a treat ! Stefan has recorded as a treble soloist in Bach's motet Jesu, meine Freude (1996) and in Schütz's Geistliche Chormusik (1998).

I know of no currently available recordings with a boy soprano, but it is done sometimes in the theatre and it can be only a matter of time before an "authentic" performance is recorded. Simon Pike sang the part with the Welsh National Opera at Covent Garden in September 1986. (It is interesting to note that at the Bayreuth premiere in 1876 Wagner used not a boy -- perhaps none was adequate -- but the 27-year-old Lilli Lehmann, and even at Ludwig II's Munich theatre in 1878 the role was taken by a female pupil of the Royal Music School.)
There is at least one recording. The one by Hartmut Haenchen...
