  Matthew Billsborough Boy Soprano Soloist
Print Friendly Page
Matthew Billsborough was selected as Britain's top choirboy when he competed in the Rediffusion Chorister's Awards, 1975. In a competition that was organized by the Royal School of Church Music and attracted two thousand five hundred entries, Matthew reached the final with twenty seven other choristers.

Singing in St. George's Church, Hanover Square, London, before a distinguished panel of adjudicators -- Sir Charles Groves, condustor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, David Willcocks, Director of the Royal College of Music, and Lionel Dakers, Director of the Royal School of Church Music -- Matthew won the top award. His prize was L1000, to be used by his church, All Saints, High Wycombe, for improving choral facilities.

On this record Matthew sings a blend of both classical and popular Church music. The St. Matthew Passion by Bach was the piece he chose for the Awards final. Matthew sings a wide range of music, from which the selection on this record has been taken. Not one piece would sound effective unless he had a feeling for style and was able to interpret the music accordingly.
