George Banks-Martin was born in 1963 and joined the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford in the summer of 1971 and at the same time attended the cathedral school. He became head chorister in September 1975 and left the Cathedral Choir in July 1976 having obtained a music scholarship to Radley College. He was also given a Harwood Scholarship by Christ Church. Besides his interest in singing he plays the piano, the viola and the organ and he is also keen on cricket and tennis.

George Banks-Martin sang profesionally as a bass in the 1980s, and gave up singing several years ago.
