Yves Abel    (b. 1963) Boy Soprano Soloist
Print Friendly Page
Yves Abel Yves was born in Toronto in 1963. This bilingual (French/English) boy studied piano and recorder as well as voice. His voice teacher, Edgar Hanson, was choirmaster and organist at the Anglican Church of St. Simon the Apostle, where Yves was one of the trebles. The conductor Mario Bernardi heard him sing and engaged him to sing the part of one of the Three Boys in Mozart's The Magic Flute at the 1975 Ottawa Festival. This was followed by being cast as Miles in Britten's The Turn of the Screw, probably the largest and most demanding part for a boy singer in the operatic repetoire. He is now an international conductor.
