Sam Coates Although he only recorded one solo for commercial release, Sam has been an asset to the Libera team, being one of the current choir's longest serving members. Sam's first video appearance with Angel Voices came in 1997 when he was 8 or 9 - it was Prizeman's "Salva Me" which saw the boys singing in the belly of the Matlock Caves. Sam has continued to be a bright face on Angel Voices and Libera videos and has appeared on almost all of them since his first.

Throughout his time in Libera, Sam has sung on 3, or possibly 4, of the Angel Voices and Libera CDs and the 3 albums that Libera recorded with Aled Jones. Sam's deserved vocal moment came in 2001 when he sang the solo for "Gaudete" on the Luminosa album. The end result was of the purist form and it is no wonder Sam was used prominently as a treble to sing secondary melodies and harmonies and in solos for small groups of boys. On Libera's album of 2004, Free, a feature was made of the small number of Libera boys whose voices had changed, including Sam - the boy with a new role to play.

Sam and his voice, along with the other ex-trebles, continue to provide a fantastic support to the other voices, as could be heard in the concerts that Libera performed on their 2005 tour of Japan and Korea. Sam attended the tour as a singer and chaperone, as well as being a technical assistant, a job he has often assisted with most faithfully. Now Sam is an accomplished pianist and still upholds his passion for jazz, both performing and composing.
